Issuing a quick lesson in “you’re only as good as your last report”, President Trump lashed out at a couple of FOX News reporters in a Twitter post. He stopped short of calling them “fake news”, but he did accuse them of having “less understanding” than fake news.
Never thought I’d say this but I think @johnrobertsFox and @GillianHTurner @FoxNews have even less understanding of the Wall negotiations than the folks at FAKE NEWS CNN & NBC! Look to final results! Don’t know how my poll numbers are so good, especially up 19% with Hispanics?
In an interesting twist, these poll numbers that are “so good” which he references? 39%. I’m willing to bet that John Roberts and Gillian Turner don’t understand how good those numbers really are either.
All of this aside, and to be fair, many on the right are overreacting to Trump reopening the government without border wall funding. Case in point, Ann Coulter.
In all seriousness, Trump was President for 1 year and 11 months with a Republican majority in the House and Senate and didn’t fund the wall. With two weeks left before Democrats took over the House, suddenly wall funding became a priority. And you took that seriously, Ann? Did you forget about when President Trump said that if President Obama really cared about DACA, he would’ve fixed it in his first 2 years when he had the votes to do it?
This, ladies and gentlemen, is why you have no wall. After all, the wall was never about securing the border anyway.
Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border did not come from security analysts following years of study or through evidence that a wall would reduce illegal immigration. Amazingly, for something so central to the current U.S. president, the wall came about as a “mnemonic device” thought up by a pair of political consultants to remind Donald Trump to talk about illegal immigration.
What President Trump is really asking for now is a $5.7 billion donation from the American taxpayer to his Trump 2020 campaign. That money is to get Ann Coulter and FOX News back on his side.
If he ever wants to get serious about securing the border, there are plenty of folks like myself who would be ready to have that conversation. If he continues to simply demand a wall to pacify his voters, we will continue to oppose him.
