The Video Liberals Don’t Want You To See!

Back when a wall was a wall.
But, they supported a wall?!?!?

Perhaps you’ve seen this video floating around on one of your social media accounts, typically shared with an explanation about what hypocrites these liberals, Democrats, or progressives are. After all, they once supported the wall, as you can clearly see here, yet now they oppose it. Right? Well… not exactly.

I’m neither a liberal nor a Democrat, but I would argue that this is precisely the video they do want you to see. In fact, they probably appreciate it being spread around. Most likely because it exposes how hypocritical and dishonest the people sharing it really are. You may noticed that none of the featured clips from the left ever say the word “wall” in their stated desires for border security. Now, you may argue that this is inconsequential. They do say things like “physical barrier” or “fence” and it’s all the same, right? Well, actually that would be wrong, as is evidenced by this tweet from then Candidate Trump in August of 2015.

It’s not a fence, it’s a wall, and there’s a big difference.

Now I can see how supporters of the wall can get confused. After all, with President Trump it’s become a fence, wall, steel slats or whatever you want to call it. In fact, he is now emphatically denying that he’s trying to build the concrete wall he promised.

“We are not building a Concrete Wall”

He later tweeted a picture of the steel slat fence he is now proposing.

The proposed fence.

President Trump campaigned on a wall that was much different than a fence, but now he is proposing a fence. Now at this point you might say the video does expose the hypocrisy of the left, because they supported a fence then and are opposing this fence now. The only problem with that is, they got that fence. Supporting a certain amount of fence for a given purpose at a given point in time doesn’t obligate a person to support any fence proposed at any point for any reason.

Further complicating the matter is that President Trump, despite changing his proposal from a wall to a fence, continues to use the word “wall” to describe it. This makes it difficult for the left to support him on it, because once securing the funding he could decide to build his originally proposed wall as he is suggesting as opposed to the fence that he is proposing now.

Then, there is the matter of the end of the video. Notice the clip of Trump saying that we’re going to build a wall, and asking the crowd “who’s going to pay for it”. They reply “Mexico” and he confirms, “100%”. So this video, on the heels of a government shutdown trying to force Congress to pay for the wall, shows liberals to be hypocrites? Quite the opposite. After all, Trump tries to play fast and lose with the facts about how he said Mexico would pay for the wall. Unfortunately for him, his scrubbing the details from his website doesn’t wipe them off of the internet. One can view his campaign website as it appeared on August 15, 2016 making this declaration.

Mexico must pay for the wall and, until they do, the United States will, among other things: impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages; increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEOs and diplomats (and if necessary cancel them); increase fees on all border crossing cards – of which we issue about 1 million to Mexican nationals each year (a major source of visa overstays); increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico (another major source of overstays); and increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico [Tariffs and foreign aid cuts are also options].  We will not be taken advantage of anymore.

Or this proposal from September 15th of 2016, where he laid out what he would do on days 1, 2, and 3 of his administration to secure funding for the wall.

Now did President Trump do any of those things on his first 3 days in office? Has he done any of them yet? No. In fact, for his first two years in office with Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, he failed to secure funding for the wall. And before you say he needed Democratic votes, remember “Repeal and Replace”? Each year the Senate gets one chance to use reconciliation, a rule which only requires 50 votes for matters of funding. In his first year, at the suggestion of President Trump, Senate Republicans wasted their reconciliation power on an ObamaCare repeal that failed to pass. If President Trump cared so much about the wall, it would already be funded from that process, not to mention the $25 billion wall deal he turned down from the Democrats.

So you see, this isn’t the video that liberals didn’t want me to see. It’s the video that Trump supporters didn’t have enough sense to keep hidden from me, because it shows that they are lying about the following things.

  1. Democrats don’t oppose securing the border. They just don’t see the wall as an effective way of doing it.
  2. Democrats don’t oppose the use of physical barriers at the border.
  3. President Trump, who once drew a clear distinction between fences and walls, is now trying to claim he kept his promise of building a wall by securing funding for a proposed fence.
  4. President Trump, who promised the wall would be paid for by Mexico, is willing to shut down the Government to force the United States to pay for the wall.

This video doesn’t expose the hypocrisy of the left. It simply exposes how totally and completely those who made it and are sharing it believe the lies that they spread on social media. So deeply that, upon seeing the truth with their own eyes, they believe that the left is hypocritical instead of seeing their own lies for what they are.
