As a Miami Dolphins fan, this seemed both inevitable and undesirable. The New England Patriots have decided to upgrade at the Quarterback position. Now I get, I’m a Dolphins fan. Hence, you’ll take that as trolling Tom Brady. Another order of haterade successfully delivered. However, you shouldn’t dismiss it so quickly. Here’s why.
What I know about Tom Brady.
He’s a great quarterback. Tom has had an incredible run in New England. However, he’s not nearly as good as he once was. For the last several seasons I’ve watched New England rely more and more on quick strikes as Brady became less and less reliable down the field.
Last season however, we saw something new. Bad interceptions. Furthermore, many of them on short passes. Moreover, a lot of them came on timing plays. Did he have a lack of weapons? Perhaps. However, Patriots fans always say that. It’s part of the over-hyping of Tom Brady. Bottom line is his physical prowess had diminished. Belichick can game plan that. Now his skills have followed suit. That’s irreparable.
What I know about Belichick.
He’s a cheater. Hence, I harrassed him relentlessly. However, he’s also damn good. Most likely the best in the business. If he wanted Brady, Tom would still be a Patriot. Moreover, I’m left to conclude one of two things.
- Belichick believes that he can do better at the QB position than Tom Brady.
- Or, Bill doesn’t believe that Brady was worth the asking price.
The end result is the same. Either Bill believes he has a better option at quarterback, or he believes that another option plus what he gets with the money he’s not paying Tom combined makes a better option.
What I believe about Tom Brady.
As a Dolphins fan, I wish he had stayed in New England. Had this move come 5 years ago, I would have applauded it. My only regret would be that he picked the wrong city in Florida. Now? I’m grateful that we weren’t the suckers.
The Buccaneers might be a better team this year. However, they won’t be better than the Patriots. Of course, I could be wrong. Cheating aside, I think that the magic in New England sticks to one man. Coach Bill Belichick. Tom Brady is a product of his system. However, I’m going on the record because I’m willing to be proven wrong. In fact, I want to be. I just don’t think I am.
Might Brady sneak Tampa into the playoffs? Perhaps. How much would you pay to see him as the visitor in Foxborough fighting for that chance? If you’re like me, you like Belichick’s chances in that spot.
This was a gutsy move for Brady. He’s widely considered the GOAT when he clearly wasn’t even the best Quarterback of his era. However, if he wins a Championship in Tampa even I will lack the audacity to point that out. If he flops in Tampa, I will rabidly point out how he was a product of the system. Fair? Not hardly. He’s old and washed up. Will I do it anyway? Damn right I will. Because, at the end of the day, I’m still a hater. And people love haterade.
